10 Ways to Maximize Your Healthcare Marketing & Physician Strategies Summit Experience

As a HMPS veteran, here are my 10 ways to get the most out of your conference experience (live and virtual).

1. Read the Blog Coverage

Check out the Forum for Healthcare Strategists blog before, during and after the conference for content featuring the industry’s best and brightest minds discussing critical topics of interest for healthcare marketers.

For example, find out How HonorHealth Personalizes the Patient Journey before Associate Vice President Craig Kartcher shares proven strategies and real-world examples during his presentation on Thursday (5/23) at 9:30 am.

2. Get to Know the Keynote Speakers

The HMPS conference always features outstanding general sessions, and I find it useful to get familiar with the speakers in advance of their presentations. This helps contextualize the ideas shared and can inform questions you'd like to pose during audience Q&A.

Here are this year’s featured presenters and a few resources you can review in advance:

Speaker: Mitch Joel, founder of Six Pixels Group, innovator, bestselling author

Topic: “Disrupting Disruption: How Data and Technology Will Shape Your Future”

Topic: “Taking the Lead on Health & Wellness”

Read his work: He’s the author of several books.

Speaker: Andrew Davis, marketing influencer, bestselling author, former television producer and agency executive

Topic: “The Loyalty Loop”

Read his work: Called “The Malcom Gladwell of the business world,” check out his books Brandscaping and Town Inc.

3. Follow the Thought Leaders

During HMPS, there are always thought-provoking conversations and perspectives exchanged on Twitter. We recounted 25 of our favorites from last year in a previous blog post.

4. Find the Perfect Gift

If your friends and family are anything like mine, bringing home another branded stress ball or pen picked up at a booth and calling it a souvenir won’t cut it.

We polled the Forum leadership team (all based in Chicago) and here are a few of their “must-have” gifts when visiting the Windy City:

5. Scope Out the Scene

The conference venue is surrounded by iconic attractions and world-class restaurants. Check out the Forum for Healthcare Strategists website for a list of the staff favorites as you're scheduling power lunches and team dinners during the conference. 6. Face Your Fears

While almost everyone who attends conferences like HMPS loves getting smarter, not everyone enjoys the experience of meeting new people (and just the idea of networking even makes some people feel dirty).

To make the networking events less stressful, get pro tips from the experts, like Adam Grant’s podcast on "Networking for People Who Hate Networking" and this CNBC article on "The Only Icebreaker You’ll Ever Need."

7. Play Buzzword Bingo

It’s a marketing conference so chances are, you’ll hear at least one of the worst buzzwords from 2018 during a keynote presentation or concurrent session. Challenge a peer or the person sitting beside you during a session to see who can catch the most of these ubiquitous terms (there might even be a couple hidden in this post).
